Our attitude as Pakistani and Indian expatriates in Australia

Pak-India flags

When I migrated to Australia permanently in 2010 I decided to make this beautiful country my home. I taught my daughters that Australia is our home and we should feel proud on being residents of such a beautiful and developed country. However later I realised that unfortunately many Australian citizens who were born in India still show their hatred towards Pakistani born Australians. Few good people fighting against this negative attitude are Ejaz Khan, Zahid Minhas(serving the community through Radio Dosti program for last 20 years), Balbir Singh, Maqsood Nagi, Shagufta Zia, Rekha Maharaj Vikas Paul and Lucky Singh. I also try to promote friendship between Pakistani and Indian born Australians wherever possible.

Recently Sydney saw a sad incident that affected these efforts badly. Indian film awards show IFFAA was being organised here in which renowned Pakistani artists were also invited by the organisers. Tickets were selling very fast and Subcontinent community was eagerly waiting for the date of event. All of a sudden the event got cancelled. Initially the organisers informed that due to tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pakistani artists would not be participating in the event, and later they cancelled the whole event. Vikas Paul was one of the main organisers. He told later that he and other organisers received threats from RSS (Indian extremist religious group) members in Australia that they would not let it happen and would attack Indian celebrities in their own country who were participating in the event. On their pressure management decided to drop Pakistani artists initially and later cancelled the whole event.

It’s not something new. India has got more extremists than Pakistan has. In Pakistan religious vote makes 2.5% of the total votes cast, whereas in India RSS supported BJP got 60% of the total cast votes in their last polls.

I would like to request my Australian friends from India and Pakistan to take each other as Australians, not Indian or Pakistani. We much promote love and respect for each other so that we could create a better environment here. Anyone who promotes hatred must be left alone.

Pakistan Zindabad – Jay Hind

Response to the hateful sentiments of Adnan Sami Khan and Abhijeet Bhatacharia

In the recent weeks Indian forces have crossed every limit of violence in the occupied Kashmir. They killed independence movement leader Burhan Vani which ignited the Muslim community of Kashmir and as a result clashes started between the Kashmiris and the Indian Army deployed there.

Indian government allowed soldiers to use pallet bullets against the protesters. This is the worst example of inhuman torture. Pallet bullets made many people blind, including women and children. When Kashmiris saw that no one in the Indian government was worried about this violation of human rights, they attacked Indian Army base camp in Kashmir and killed some soldiers. India once again, without any proof, blamed Pakistan on this. Indian Army later claimed false fully that they conducted surgical strike in Pakistan, which they failed to prove. Pakistani Prime Minister Mr. Nawaz Sharif addressed to the UN General Assembly where he supported Kashmiris and their cause. He condemned Indian forces on using pallet bullets in Kashmir.

In this scenario Indian film industry Bollywood had to announce that no Pakistani artist would be cast in their new projects. Pakistani actors were told to leave India immediately by the terrorist Indian political parties. In the last week we listened to the ugly and hate provoking statements from ex-Pakistani national Adnan Sami Khan, and Indian singer Abhijeet Bhatacharia. Adnan supported Indian army on attacking Pakistan. Abhijeet Bhatacharia also used foul language against the Pakistani artists and said they should have been kicked out of India immediately.

I have been a big fan of many Bollywood artists like Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Hima Malini, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit. I believe that artists have nothing to do with the politics.

Adnan Sami Khan; I would like to say “Shame on you”. You were introduced to the world through Pakistan Television, where you gave piano performances. Veteran Pakistani film director Syed Noor gave you chance to act as a hero in his classic film Sargam, which got flopped because of your fat body, but he never blamed you for his loss. You moved to India few years back and later got Indian nationality which India offered to you just because they knew that it would hurt Pakistanis. You must remember that Indian armed forces are torturing inhumanly in Kashmir. Did you have courage to speak against the use of pallet bullets in Kashmir??? No! So please just shut up!!!!

Abhijeet Bhatacharia; you are a loser who nobody wants to listen to after listening to the melodious voices of Pakistani artists Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam and Shafqat Amanat Ali. You are jealous with Pakistani talented singers and actors because they are much more popular than you. Shame on you and your ugly thoughts!!!

General Raheel Sharif – an Army Chief with courage and wisdom!

Chief of the Pakistan Army General Raheel Shareef

Chief of the Pakistan Army Staff General Raheel Shareef

Finally the tough days are coming for the culprit leadership of Pakistan People’s Party and MQM. Credit of course goes to the best ever and most capable Army Chief, General Raheel Sharif, who has initiated the most awaited action against the religious and political terrorists. He appears to be a silent persons whose actions speak much louder. After the exposure of MQM’s links with the Indian intelligence agency RAW by BBC now Altaf Hussain is no more popular within the patriotic Urdu speaking community of Pakistan. PTI already had affected their popularity within the youth.

People’s Party chairman Asif Ali Zardari last week issued a very unreasonable statement against the Pak Army. He however failed in getting any support on that from other political parties. Even Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned his words and assured Army Chief of government’s full support. Dr. Imran Farooq and Ayyan Ali cases are also very important in the present scenario. Although Ayyan Ali is enjoying all facilities in the jail yet she could not succeed in getting out at all. On the other hand UK government has got access to the people involved in Dr. Imran Farooq murder case and very soon the culprits will be behind the bars.

General Raheel Sharif has also been very successful in controlling the terrorist attacks and now law and order situation is improving rapidly. I expect that one day he will also ask the government to bring those involved in the Model Town killings to the courts where they will face the charges against them. Elimination of PPP and MQM from the politics will definitely bring improvement in the country. Due to the criminal negligence of Sindh Government a large number of casualties took place in Karachi after the worst ever heatstroke. Continued electricity load shedding and shortage of water during the hot Ramadan led to the pathetic life conditions and claimed many lives.

Shehbaz Sharif who used to swear Zardari on electricity shortage in the worst manner is now completely silent as his brother is the sitting Prime Minister. He has never used a single bad word about the government policies. Imran Khan is a better choice definitely but he has done nothing exceptional in KPK rather than demanding for the recounting of cast votes. I would recommend him to put efforts in KPK and set examples of good governance there so that in the next election people of Pakistan could vote his party.

Aamir Khan – just a perfect actor!!!

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan is one of the most charming personalities from the Indian film industry Bollywood. Since his debut in the super hit film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, this great actor has shown remarkable improvement and progress in his career. I just watched his latest flick Dhoom 3 on the Christmas day at a Sydney cinema. To my surprise the cinema was jam packed with Aamir’s Indian, Pakistani, Fijian and Arab fans.

This is the film that can be clearly called as Aamir’s film. Khan has played double role in this film for identical twin brothers Sahir and Samar. Both of his characters have total different natures, styles and attitudes toward life. Indian film industry has got great computer mixing technology; and in the film both Sahir and Samar are not only shown together in many scenes but they also interact with each other. Aamir Khan has given wonderful performance in both the roles. You will feel that these roles are being played by the real twin brothers. Aamir from his body language, face gestures and talking styles has successfully delivered the roles and played a great role in moving this film a real block buster beside some technical flaws.

If we look into Aamir Khan’s 25 years plus film career, he has given some wonderful performances. I personally liked his performance in films Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Dil, Mann, Raja Hindustani, Dil Chahta Hay, Lagaan, Akailay Hum Akailay Tum, Ghulam, Ishq, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Rangeela, Rung De Basanti, Taaray Zameen Per, Fanaa, Ghajani, 3 Idiots, Talash and now Dhoom 3.

There are many scenes in which Aamir has shown the best of his talent. However scene in film Mann, when Aamir finds his lost beloved Manisha Koirala after a long time and gets to know that she had lost her both legs in an accident, was just great. Similarly his scene in film Rung De Basanti, when he cries over the death of his beloved friend on the dining table, was just superb. As an angry young man in Ghajani, Aamir crosses all levels of perfection.

In the film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Aamir Khan performed just great when his cyclist brother gets seriously wounded. Aamir Khan’s performance in the films Raja Hindustani and Dil Chahta Hay is just classical. In Fanaa, Aamir performed against Kajol and did full justice with a very different role. No one can forget Aamir’s performance in film Ghulam. Similarly 3 Idiots was a film in which Aamir played such a great role that could never be forgotten for the ages.

I would conclude by saying that Aamir Khan is a jewel of Bollywood film industry, who has got skills of performing any role. He is just Mr. Perfect and no other actor in the Bollywood can be compared with him.

Liberal government not focusing on the key issues in Australia

In 2013 Australian nation went for polls and elected Liberal party for making the new federal government. Tony Abbott became the new Australian Prime Minister in September 2013. Australian job market was going very slow since March this year. Recruiters were telling the candidates that it was quiet because of the forthcoming federal election.

In July 2013 country’s biggest city rail organisation RailCorp that runs trains in Sydney metropolitan area went into transition and became Sydney Trains. A large number of professionals were fired in the name of short sizing. Liberal party is running the state government of New South Wales. Many intelligent engineers opted for redundancy also known as voluntary separation. As a result they were paid huge amounts. However, after a month or so Caucasian (white) professionals were hired once again on high salary contracts. They not only enjoyed the redundancy benefits but also got jobs again at much higher salaries.

Unemployment in Australia increased in 2013

Unemployment in Australia increased in 2013

We demand equal employment opportunities for immigrant professionals!!!

We demand equal employment opportunities for immigrant professionals!!!

Situation is in the private job industry is also very bad for the skilled immigrant. You apply after preparing a very good covering letter completely addressing the selection criteria but if your name is of a Muslim and/or nationality is Pakistani, even the recruiters don’t shortlist you for the interviews. This has brought disappointment for those who migrated to Australia with high hopes.

Hon. Tony Abbott and his cabinet have done nothing to improve the unemployment and the discrimination with the immigrant professionals. I am highly disappointed from their performance. On the other side opposition party Greens are just interested in getting the equal marriage rights for the same-sex couples. They consider it to be a very important issue. Gays and Lesbians make just 1-2% of the Australian population, whereas immigrants make around 35-40% of the population. I am unable to understand that why no one is bothered about their problems who have to earn for their families to live in the highly expensive country Australia. We have come here with high hopes after getting the skilled immigration which has a very difficult process. Being an engineer I had to first get my qualifications and experience recognised by Engineers Australia, for which I prepared the required report (Competency Demonstration Report). The report was assessed by the Engineers Australia and they approved it after making sure that my experience was of the required Australian standards. After that I applied for the immigration.

I therefore demand Australian government to take necessary actions for improving the employment opportunities in the public and private sectors and eradicate the evident discrimination that has brought disappointment and depression for the migrated peoples.

Peaceful neighbourhood necessary for Pakistan

I am a Civil Engineer by qualification. During our graduation we were taught about the levels of earthquakes in a subject of geo-technical engineering. Earthquake intensity is expressed in Richter scale. An earthquake falling in the range of 7.0 – 7.9 on Richter scale is termed as catastrophic.

25th of September 2013 can be termed as a black day in the history of Baluchistan province when district Awaran was hit by an earthquake of intensity 7.8 (Richter scale). More than 300 people, including women and children, lost their lives as result of this 8 second long severe earthquake. People of the area witnessed emerging of a new island type structures in the Arabian Sea near the port of Gwadar.

After the earthquake, rescue services were started immediately by the federal and provincial governments, with the cooperation of Pakistan Army. However the most alarming thing noticed was the attack on helping Army helicopter by using rocket launchers. Independence fighters in Baluchistan province are getting foreign support from India and Afghanistan who want to destabilise Pakistan. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif It has recent meeting with his Indian counterpart Mr. Manmohan Singh in New York has elevated this issue. Later Pakistani government has provided proofs of Indian interference in Baluchistan to the Indian authorities.

Pakistan is always blamed for harbouring the terrorists on its lands. India is always doing the false propaganda against our country in this regard. However if we just review true situation of the area, we would realise that countries having their borders with India are facing problems. India is having issues with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and China. India is supporting the Baluchistan Liberation Army through Afghanistan where it has opened so many consulates, which are not required at all. Purpose is to provide ammunition to the anti-government terrorists in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s biggest media group Jang has been trying its best to bring peace between the two neighbouring countries and with the cooperation of an Indian media group ‘Times of India’ it launched a campaign ‘Aman Ki Asha’ (hope of peace). Recently both groups arranged a dialogue between the senior politicians and army personnel from both countries on TV screens. Indian panel spoke very rudely and targeted Hafiz Saeed, who was released by the Supreme Court of Pakistan after finding that there was nothing against him for which he could be kept behind the bars. Seasoned politician Sheikh Rashid Ahmed handled tough allegations from Indian participants quite smartly.

Some days back (as reported by Times of India on July 14, 2013) the former Indian home ministry officer and investigator Satish Verma disclosed that “incumbent government orchestrated and pre-planned terror attacks on its own parliament (December 13, 2001) and carnage in Mumbai (November 26, 2008)” creating terror, mayhem and pandemonium, killing hundreds of innocent people in cold blood. Pak-China friendship

After knowing such things we must be clear about the Indian intentions about bringing peace in the area. Pakistani government should not shake hand with India or Afghanistan who are our enemies. We must revive our terms with China, Iran and Bangladesh so that we could tackle with the international issues with their support. This will also help in maintaining balance of power in the region. We can arrange trainings for our law enforcing agencies with the help of Chinese and Iranian governments. We can also make sure that on all international forums we have a united voice which will definitely have a sound impact.

Now this is the time that we should ban showing of Indian movies in our cinemas. For this government must invest in the Pakistani film industry and help it to establish once again. More incentives should be announced for the businessmen for constructing cinemas and theatre halls. Similarly all cinemas must be given tax relief for at least two years so that they could happily exhibit our own films. By promoting our own culture we’ll bring a sense of patriotism in our people. Pakistani artists will also be able to support their families after getting work.

Pakistan Zindabad!!!

Inhumane torture on poor Indian girl

Damini protest
December 2012 brought very horrifying news from Delhi India, which affected every single person who has a ‘heart’ in their body. Her real name is still unknown as Indian laws don’t allow publishing of name of the rape victim. However she has been named as Damini in most of the news. She was born and raised in Delhi while her parents were from a small village in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. Her father, who sold his agricultural land to educate her, works for a private company in Delhi. (Source:

Damini, who was a physiotherapy intern, was beaten and gang raped in Delhi – India’s capital on 16 December 2012, and died thirteen days later while undergoing emergency treatment in Singapore for brain and gastrointestinal damage from the assault. She was on her way to her home with her male colleague after watching a movie. They both boarded on a bus in South Delhi in the early evening. The bus was being driven as a “joyride” carrying five men who were friends of the driver. They beat both the girl and her colleague and then allegedly raped her in the running bus, which was detracted from its original route. After raping they used a metal rod for torturing the girl. They inserted the rod into her private part (from front) and damaged her intestines. The male colleague was unconscious after being knocked of a metal rod on his head.

Then both of them were thrown on the road from the running bus. Some passerby saw them in critical condition and informed the Police. Police took the couple to the nearby hospital where the female victim was given emergency treatment and placed on mechanical ventilation.

The victim was found with only 5% of her intestines left inside of her. A doctor at the hospital later said that the L-shaped rod was inserted into her and it was pulled out with so much force that the act brought out her intestines also. That is probably the only thing that explains such severe damage to her intestines. On 26 December, due to her critical condition, she was moved to Singapore for further treatment, where she died on 29 December. Her body was cremated under strict security in the presence of her family members only.

Due to the increased public pressure, Police performed efficiently and have arrested all six assailants, who are being interrogated at the moment. Male victim recognised all of them. This event brought a bad name for India in all over the world. Indian government faced the worst criticism on keeping silent on such a horrifying crime. Sonia Gandhi and other political leaders did not give proper importance to the matter and ordered police to manhandle the peaceful protestors, which aggravated the situation further.

Sydney Protest
Indian community after this brutal act has come up with a very high demand of making the laws for giving the strictest possible punishment to the rapists. Rape is one of the highest occuring crimes in India. Now Indian citizens are demanding reforms in the laws for giving protection to women.

In Sydney, overseas Indian and Pakistanis organised a protest which demand quick justice. Maxina Salma, Harish Velji, Parvez Khan, Mansoor Noor, Pallavi Sinha, Neena Sinha, Aruna Chandrala and Rekha Rajvanshi were the prominent Sydneysiders who took part in the event which got attention of the Sydney Morning Herald and ABC as well.

Rajesh Khanna left us

Rajesh Khanna – a true Bollywood super star

Rajesh Khanna left us yesterday (18 July 2012). It is a big loss for the Indian film industry indeed. His fans are sad all over the world after hearing this heart breaking news. Khanna was born on 29 December 1942 in Booray Wala, Pakistan. He got married to Dimple Kapadia in 1973. However they got separated in 1984. Later their daughter Twinkle Khanna got married to Akshay Kumar. When I was just a school going kid, I watched first movie of Rajesh Khanna titled as ‘Sautan’. Tina Munim was the heroine against him in this super hit film. Rajesh Khanna was a real charming and graceful hero. His face expressions and dialogue delivery were superb.

I watched number of his hit movies including ‘Aap Ki Kasam’, ‘Namak Haram’, ‘Adheekar’, ‘Anand’, ‘Khamoshi’, ‘Autar’, ‘Nazrana’ and ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalain’ (released in January 1999). He was the first super star of Bollywood. His performance in the movie ‘Anand’ can be regarded as the best, in which he performed role of a cancer patient who died at the end of movie. He deserved the best actor award on his extra ordinary performance in that movie, however that was given to Amitabh Bachchan (without any justification) who performed as a side hero in the same movie.

Most of the songs performed in the movies by Rajesh Khanna were from the legendary singer Kishore Kumar. His voice was very suitable on Khanna. Both gave a good number of melodious hit songs to their fans, like ‘Zindagi Ik Safar Hay Suhana’, ‘Zindagi Ka Safar Hay Ye Kaisa Safar’, ‘Mayn Tera Sheher Chhor Jaoon Ga’, ‘Zindagi Ke Safar Mayn Guzar Jatay Hayn’, ‘Hazaar Rahayn Murr Ke Daikheen’, ‘Mere Sapnoun Ki Rani’, ‘O Mere Dil Ke Chayn’, ‘Jay Jay Jeeway Shankar’ and ‘Roop Tera Mastana’. These songs with a lot more are still popular and listened all over the world by the fans of Rajesh Khanna and Kishore Kumar.

I feel very sad on this loss and pray for the patience of his family on this great loss. Watch his beautiful performance by clicking the link below.

O Meray Dil Ke Chayn

Jagjit Singh – the ghazal king left us!!!!

Jagjit Singh - the legend who passed away!

I cannot express how much sad I felt when I heard the unexpected news of Jagjit Singh’s sudden death, who was under treatment after an attack of brain haemorrhage. I was one of his biggest fans in the world. He often used to perform in Sydney. This time I was waiting for his next performance, for which I had full commitment to attend and listen the ghazal singer live.

No doubt, it is a great loss for the people of India and Pakistan, who loved Jagjit Jee’s Urdu ghazals. He sang many songs that simply create a spell on the listeners. Some of them include Hontoun Se Chhoo Lou Tum (ہونٹوں سے چھو لو تم), Tum Itna Jo Muskara Rahay Hou (تم اتنا جو مسکرا رہے ہو), Kaghaz Ki Kashti (کاغذ کی کشتی), Tum Ko Daikha Tou Yeh Khayal Aaya (تم کو دیکھا تو یہ خیال آیا), Kisi Nazar Ko Tera (کسی نظر کو تیرا), Din Aa Gaye Shabab Ke (دن آ گئے شباب کے), Kurti Mulmul Dee (کرتی ململ دی), Saaray Pind Ich Puaarray Paaye (سارے پنڈ اچ پواڑے پائے) and a lot more. Jagjit Singh was 70 year old, but his voice quality was still superb. Initially his wife Chitra Singh used to sing duets with him. After the young death of their only son in a road accident, Chitra left singing forever. Jagjit Singh was the heart and soul of eastern music. He sang some re-arranged songs of his fellow singers in an album ‘Close to my heart’, which is a beautiful treat for his fans.

We will always remember Jagjit Sahib as there are very few persons who are not only good in their profession but also great in their dealing. I am sharing a tributary video of this great singer from the album ‘Close to my heart’.
