Well done Pakistan!!!

Today I feel proud to call myself a Pakistani. Yes my nation has proved that it can protest in a civilised manner without breaking a single window and attacking a single person while sitting for four days on the roads of Islamabad in the coldest weather.

Last week has been very crucial for Pakistan. Our government had to face the anger of common people, who responded well to Dr. Tahir ul Qadri’s call for the long march. It was also a very difficult time for other political parties, especially Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League (N). MQM chairman Altaf Hussain initially announced to participate in the march, but later his party moved away just a day before the start of the long march. Similarly Pakistan Muslim League (Q), which initially was a supporter of Dr. Tahir ul Qadri decided not to participate.

This was the time when our all times enemy India started creating problems for us on our borders with them. They started firing on our check posts on the border. Few of our brave soldiers embraced Shahadat. Actually Indian government had a perception that Pakistan Army would get involved in the politics as a result of long march and it would be the best time for attacking Pakistan.

However I really salute to the wisdom of Dr. Tahir ul Qadri who didn’t provide any such opportunity by keeping his crowd peaceful throughout their sit-in in Islamabad. All the political parties whether they are in opposition or allies of the federal government vowed their commitment to support the democracy at any cost. As a result, government got courage and confidence and sent a delegation to Dr. Tahir ul Qadri, which held a long session with him. Both parties finally agreed on signing a covenant that marked ending of the four day sit-in.

In this long march and sit-in, thousands of Pakistani families (with their young kids) stayed on the roads for four days in the coldest weather. They just wanted to see some outcome of their sacrifice. During their talks with the media persons, they voiced loudly against the corruption and malfunctioning of the sitting PPP government. They used harsh words against President Asif Ali Zardari and asked him to resign. City government of Islamabad provided them with temporary toilets and other necessary facilities. Best thing of the sit-in was the discipline and displaying of Pakistani flags only. Pakistani nation showed to the entire world that they can protest in a peaceful manner. They realised that any mistake at that time could result in another martial law.

Our armed forces also deserve appreciation as they kept themselves away from the politics and provided another chance to the democracy. India once again got a wonderful response from our nation and could not get courage on attacking us. We are united and will teach the toughest lesson to anyone who attacks on us.

  1. I am sorry to disagree with you on some points here. Qadri proved himself a selfish man who stayed in bullet proof container with all facilities of a five star hotel’s room, whereas his followers that included children, ladies and old people kept bathing in rains.
This long march was a conspiracy against the democratic system in the country.
I appreciate Shia community for their peaceful protests all over the country after the brutal bloodshed in Quetta. They got their demand fulfilled and corrupt and incapable government had to step down. On the other hand, Qadri shook hands with the corrupt PPP and their allies.
