Rajesh Khanna left us

Rajesh Khanna – a true Bollywood super star

Rajesh Khanna left us yesterday (18 July 2012). It is a big loss for the Indian film industry indeed. His fans are sad all over the world after hearing this heart breaking news. Khanna was born on 29 December 1942 in Booray Wala, Pakistan. He got married to Dimple Kapadia in 1973. However they got separated in 1984. Later their daughter Twinkle Khanna got married to Akshay Kumar. When I was just a school going kid, I watched first movie of Rajesh Khanna titled as ‘Sautan’. Tina Munim was the heroine against him in this super hit film. Rajesh Khanna was a real charming and graceful hero. His face expressions and dialogue delivery were superb.

I watched number of his hit movies including ‘Aap Ki Kasam’, ‘Namak Haram’, ‘Adheekar’, ‘Anand’, ‘Khamoshi’, ‘Autar’, ‘Nazrana’ and ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalain’ (released in January 1999). He was the first super star of Bollywood. His performance in the movie ‘Anand’ can be regarded as the best, in which he performed role of a cancer patient who died at the end of movie. He deserved the best actor award on his extra ordinary performance in that movie, however that was given to Amitabh Bachchan (without any justification) who performed as a side hero in the same movie.

Most of the songs performed in the movies by Rajesh Khanna were from the legendary singer Kishore Kumar. His voice was very suitable on Khanna. Both gave a good number of melodious hit songs to their fans, like ‘Zindagi Ik Safar Hay Suhana’, ‘Zindagi Ka Safar Hay Ye Kaisa Safar’, ‘Mayn Tera Sheher Chhor Jaoon Ga’, ‘Zindagi Ke Safar Mayn Guzar Jatay Hayn’, ‘Hazaar Rahayn Murr Ke Daikheen’, ‘Mere Sapnoun Ki Rani’, ‘O Mere Dil Ke Chayn’, ‘Jay Jay Jeeway Shankar’ and ‘Roop Tera Mastana’. These songs with a lot more are still popular and listened all over the world by the fans of Rajesh Khanna and Kishore Kumar.

I feel very sad on this loss and pray for the patience of his family on this great loss. Watch his beautiful performance by clicking the link below.

  1. Let me correct. Amitabh Bachchan was awarded as best supporting actor for ‘Anand’.
