14 member larger bench of Pakistan Supreme Court, led by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry issued a historical decision on 31st July 2009, after hearing a case against the imposing of unconstitutional PCO be ex-General Pervaiz Musharraf on 3rd November 2007.

The honourable court declared that this step was illegal. It also dismissed the judges of Supreme Court and the four High Courts who took oath after PCO. The Supreme Court of Pakistan also added that there was no need of Islamabad High Court, after which this court is non-functional. Pakistani nation, especially the lawyers’ community warmly welcomed the decision and declared it as a historical one. They commented that after this decision, democracy has become safer and in the future it would not be possible for any Army General to take such action. Now people of Pakistan are waiting for the government’s petition against Musharraf according to the Article No. 6 of Pakistan constitution, in which an Army General can be given a punishment of lifetime imprisonment or death who imposes a Martial Law. Let us see now what time brings for Musharraf.
