Zakir Hussain - Voice of India

Zakir Hussain - Voice of India

About 2 months ago one of my friend requested me to watch a music competition programme on Star TV. Programme was titled as ‘Voice of India’. Normally I dont watch such programmes, but that day I was amazed to listen Muhammad Rafi’s voice from someone who was not Muhammad Rafi by face. Zakir Hussain from Chhatees (36) Garh, India was the singer who sang a song of  Muhammad Rafi titled as ‘Shardi Walay Sayeen Baba’ and three judges, Monti Sharma, Sukhvindar Singh and Ismail Darbar got surprised. They appreciated him a lot and gave him very high marks.

Zakir kept on doing well and as per the format of the programme in which people from allover India vote the contestants, many times he got the maximum votes. Zakir is a crippled person since his childhood and he uses clutches to walk and stand. Unfortunately some of the parents of those contestants who had been rejected by the people and judges, started rising their voices against Zakir that he was getting popularity just becauase of sympathy due to his condition. People of India also started showing racism against Muslims and in the advance programmes they cast low votes for Zakir. Similarly his fellow singers never voted for him if they were asked to give opinion about best of them.

ON 26th September 2008, Zakir had to leave the programme because of these things as he could not get enough enough votes. He sang Rafi’s melodious song ‘Kia Hua Tera Vaada’ next day when he and other losers were given a chance for re-entry into the programme. But he was not selected.

Zakir Hussain has a gift of beautiful voice from God and he is simply reborn of Muhammad Rafi. People who have listened him and have open minds, love him due to his beautiful voice and smiling face. I wish that he could become a real great singer of Bollywood.

Dr. Aafia not in position to face the judicial trial

25 Sep 2008 · 1 Comment

A US Prosecutor has advised in Dr. Aafia’s case that she is not fit for the judicial trial due to her poor psychic condition. The Prosecutor is saying to ‘evaluate’ her condition, meaning do her examination before the treatment is offered. This is very sad that due to lot of torture US qualified Dr. Aafia Siddiqui (a daughter of Pakistan) has lost her senses and cannot face the unfair and unjustified trial against herself.

President Zardari is in USA by now and under these circumstances he must play important role to get Dr. Aafia released. According to the resources she felt some satisfaction after hearing the news about her son’s return back to her home in Pakistan. We pray to Allah to shower His blessing on her in the holy month of Ramazan (Ramadan) so that her suffering family can come out of tension.

President Zardari in USA

UN Headquarters, New York

UN Headquarters, New York

These days Pakistani President, Asif Ali Zardari is in USA on his first official visit as the President. It is being predicted that he will meet with President Bush and many other leaders who will be there to attend the UN General Assembly session, where Zardari will also address. This tour has come in a very critical situation when Pakistan is facing the worst time since its creation and terrorism has entered in its Capital Islamabad. President Zardari must speak in UN General Assembly about unjustified air attacks of US led forces in Pakistan as this is against the international laws. Zardari should also discuss about the situation in Pakistan with US President George Bush and must tell him clearly that Pakistan has paid lot of price in war on terror and cannot afford more. This is the time when these actions are required.

In case President Asif Zardari does not discuss these issues, this tour will be just the wastage of time and precious money that Pakistani nation cannot afford at any cost. We also expect that Pakistani President will raise the matter of unjustified and unethical possession of Dr. Aafia by the US government. He must help out this ‘Daughter of the nation’, who has sacrified a lot without any solid allegation against her.

Islamabad Blast – 9/11 for Pakistan

Blazing Marriott Hotel Islamabad

Blazing Marriott Hotel Islamabad

Yesterday (20th Sep. 2008 ) President Asif Ali Zardari addressed the joint session of National Assembly and Senate for the first time after his selection as the President of Pakistan.

National Assembly Speaker, Dr. Fehmida gave iftar dinner in the evening to all the parliamentarians. When this dinner was going on, a truck carrying 1000 Kg (1 ton) of explosive material entered Marriott Hotel Islamabad and the driver blasted himself resulting in a huge explosion sound of which got heard allover the Capital City.

According to the government resources, there were informations that such an event was expected yesterday due to which high security was provided around the Parliamant House, Chief Minister Secretariat and the Presidency. The suicide bomber found that he was not able to enter these areas so he decided to blast in Marriott Hotel where hundreds of Pakistani and foreign nationals were gathered for the iftar parties. 150 rooms were also occupied where different families and individual guests were staying.

Till now 60 casualities have been reported and more than 250 people are injured, out of which some are seriously injured and it is feared that the casualities can increase. The Hotel burnt out completly and converted into ashes. This sad incident is termed as “9/11 for Pakistan” and it is the worst blast in the history of Islamabad. President Z|ardari and PPP government officials have condemned this act of brutality and have said that their fight against the terrorists would continue with the same spirit.

This is the most unfortunate time in the history of Pakistan when we are fighting the war of USA and as a result our own stability is at stake. Hundreds of people lost their jobs as a result of this explosion. Dozens of cars got completely destroyed. Most of the killed people are either drivers or Hotel security staff. They were all poor people who were there for earning.

Who will think of Pakistan and tell USA that we cannot fight more for them as it is destabilising our own motherland ???

Our politicians can never learn lessons

Pervaiz Illahi - PML(Q) Leader

Pervaiz Illahi - PML(Q) Leader

After the breakup of coalition between PPP and PML(N), the Nawaz Sharif and his party decided to support PPP government in National Assembly for the sake of democracy. However, it is very sad to see that PPP could not make a good reputation. Its appointed Governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer started movement against the PML(N) led Punjab Government. He met with PML(Q) leaders and asked for their support in the provincial assembly of Punjab.

PML(Q) leaders who paved ways for all unconstitutional acts of former President Musharraf immediately welcomed Mr. Taseer and started dirty politics. They contacted people of the forward block and started threatning them to stand with them in this dirty game. They warned them that if they dont do so their memberships would be cancelled as they did not remain in the party from whose platform they had contested the election.

Mian Shahbaz Sharif is a sincere Chief Minister, who is always liked by the people of Punjab for taking revolutionary steps. Now he has managed to provide ROTI at a rate of 2 rupees throughout the province. People support him and want to see him in this position. He is hopeful that insha Allah majority of Punjab Assembly members will vote him.

Inj any case this game cannot be appreciated and I feel sad to say that our politicians give way to Army and they can never learn from their mistakes in the past.

TeamGeo Member comments on Aalim Online (7 Sep. 2008)

17 Sep 2008 · 17 Comments

Its a matter of pleasure for us that Mr. Rehan Ibrahim of TeamGeo wrote for our website. (Shahid Javed)

There is a viral attack afflicting our inboxes these days fueled by anger, piety and resentment.

The object of people’s rage is a program on Geo , in which the anchor Amir Liaquat Hussain , allegedly called for the ‘lynching’ of all Ahmedis. As a TeamGeo member I was horrified that our channel , which has its motto the phrase , ‘Geo aur Jeeney Do’, could have stooped to such lows. Especailly since we are always accused by the conservatives in society against our many programs and projects like Zara Sochieye, Khuda Kay Liye and Ghamidi. I was also very disturbed to read the Asian Human Rights report on the subject and felt the collective guilt of having caused the deaths of 2 Ahmedis.

I am not a great fan of Amir Liaquat, and not many liberals or elite are. However, I must admit that his popular , show Alim on Line , did for the first time , bring together Alim’s from the Sectarian divide on to the same platform and their discussions helped greatly in bridging the viewpoints of these two great sects of Islam. This show has a vast appeal and has helped a large member of youth, women and men to resolve their confusions about the teachings of Islam.

That said , I was still very perturbed with what occurred on 7th September on Geo. I decided to try and get to the truth of the matter. I asked for a copy of the program and saw it myself. I realized how mob fury can be inflamed by sheer hearsay and exaggeration as well as through personal bias of people against Dr Aamir.

Nowhere in the program did Dr Amir or the three guests call for the death of Ahmedis. The discussion initially was based on history and how the Prophet (PBUH) and the Sahaba dealt with the emergence of ‘False Prophets’. It kept emphasizing that all Muslims must believe that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was the seal of the Prophets and was the last messenger of God. The first guest gave us a background of the Ahmediya controversy and how the Bhutto government declared them outside the pale of Islam in the 70’s.

He also took us through the constitutional implications of that parliamentary excommunication. The scholar did not at any point call for any lynching of the Ahmedi’s.

Amir then turned to his two studio guests’ including a Shia and Sunni Alim. Both of them stated categorically that they believed that False Prophets are punishable by death and gave much references to religious text and tradition. They also heaped scorn on the founder of the movement, which I personally felt was in bad taste, but refrained from any exhortation to kill Ahmedi’s.

I decided to transcribe that portion of program which I am attaching to this mail. I think this should clear some of the air.

I am also privy of the fact that the management of Geo held a series of meetings and took the matter very seriously. They made sure that the program was not repeated nor telecast outside Pakistan. Amir Liaquat followed up with his own regret in subsequent programs and the President of Geo went on the BBC and offered his apologies to those whose sentiments were hurt by the broadcast. Geo, however, does not feel that a causal link can be established between the program and the tragic killings because there was absolutely no exhortation to do so by Amir and the three scholars. I also feel that the Asian Human Rights report was based entirely on hearsay and not on facts. They need to correct their position after either viewing the program or going through the transcript.

The Ahmedi issue is a very sensitive one and it cannot be discussed or debated openly because it opens up too many wounds. When we cannot have a balanced discussion on a topic, it is better to leave it alone . Otherwise, we will err and subvert our philosophy of Geo Aur Jeeney Do. I trust that our management will also ensure that if at all this matter is discussed in a tv programme, the point of view of the Ahmedi’s must be incorporated.

Traffic issue in Dubai and Sharjah

Yesterday it took me 3.5 hours in reaching my home in Sharjah from Jabal Ali in Dubai. I got too much upset and started thinking that if this was the life for which I had left my country. This is unfortunately an everyday routine here. In Dubai rents are too much high and even execuvite employees cannot afford to live there. They have to live in Sharjah. So around 80% of the population living in Sharjah works in Dubai. Due to lack of better public transport system, people use their cars or companies’ transport for reaching their offices. Schools in Dubai also get maximum students from Sharjah. So if you have to reach your office or school well in time, you have to leave around 5:00-5:30 am, otherwise you will stuck in traffic and it will take you hours to reach your office. Another confusing rule here is that a taxi of Sharjah can drop passengers in Dubai but cannot take passengers for Sharjah. Same is the rule for the taxis of Dubai. So people who dont have their cars are facing a great problem here. Taxi drivers dont take them happily to the other city as they have to come back empty and most of the time it take hours to come back due to heavy traffic.

Dubai government imposed a road tax SALIK on two major bridges and Sheikh Zayad Road to reduce the traffic in these areas, but it aggravated the situation further. On the roads where this tax is not charged, rush increased many times. Similarly, on the roads where SALIK is charged (4.0 AED per passing) traffic pressure is still there as people have to go for their own vehicles due to poor public transport system.

In my opinion, both Dubai and Sharjah governments should sit together to find some solution for this very serious problem, otherwise people will start leaving these cities. Dubai government must take serious action to control the high accommodation rents so that most of the working class can afford living in Dubai and bottle neck between Sharjah and Dubai can be improved.

Blessings of Ramadan Kareem

13 Sep 2008 · Leave a Comment

We are very lucky to have another Ramadan (Ramazan) in our lives. Allah loves this month the most. He puts Iblees (Satan) in prison during this month. This is the month in which Allah saves millions of human beings from the fire of hell and forgives those who ask Him for forgiveness with purity of their hearts. In this month, each good deed is rewarded 70 times than the other months.

Lailat-ul-Qadar is the most rewarding night that comes in Ramadan. On 27th Ramadan, Quran was sent to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This night comes in any of the last five odd dates of Ramadan Kareem. A person who prays in this night till Fajr, gets reward of praying for more than one thousand months. During Ramadan its a chance for all of the Muslims to purify their lives and strengthen their belief in Allah and Muhammad as His last and final Prophet. We wish all our Muslim visitors a very blessed Ramadan.
