Entries from August 2008
I am very impressed and amazed to see that even after the termination of alliance between PML(N) and PPP, both parties have shown respect for each other and in general have avoided to speak bad about each other.
Governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer who is undestood to be the man from Musharraf’s gang, has shown very immature behaviour. He organised a press conference in Governor House in which he spoke against PML(N) leadership. However Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif asked his ministers and MPA’s not to give a single statement against any PPP leader. PML(N) leader Nawaz Sharif apeared in a political TV show yesterday on Geo TV. He answered the questions from Absar Alam (compere of the show) in a very mature way. He took the nation in confidence and shared his experiences with PPP during the attempts made for the restoration of judiciary. However, he reamained very calm and quiet.
It is the behaviour that can be termed as a wave of change in our society and we feel proud of our political leadership for the first time for showing some dignity. Pakistan Zinda Baad!

It was the morning of 25th August 2008. I was heading towards Belhasa Driving School, Jabel Ali branch in Dubai for appearing in my driving test. It was my 4th attempt. I had failed first three tests inspite of having 18 year driving experience in Pakistan.
At 8:15 we (four students) were asked to sit in the test car with our RTA (Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai) examiner. He took us for the test drive. I was given second number for driving. When first guy left the driving seat, the examiner gave him ‘Fail’ test sheet. I got disappointed as my previous experiences were also like this. Anyways, I decided to just drive without thinking anything. I drove confidently. The examiner passed me. I cannot express how happy and excited I felt in that time. Getting a license in Dubai is really a very difficult thing and people spend thousand of Dirhams for this purpose. After getting the same now I have decided that I must put some very important guidelines for those, who are applying or trying for Dubai driving license as I spent more than 5,000 UAE Dirhams on getting the license. So insha Allah within next few days I will upload a new page on this site, describing the most important things to consider while appearing in a test. I am hopeful that these guidelines will prove a very good help for all those who want to get this license.

Urdu poetry is one of the most beautiful way of expression of feelings. Allama Iqbal, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Muneer Niazi, Amjad Islam Amjad and many other got popularity for their amazing poetry.
However, Ahmed Faraz can be regarded as one of the most popular poets. He passed away on 25th August 2008 in Islamabad. Inna Lila He Wa Inna Ilay He Rajioon. Faraz wrote many ghazals and poems that got very popular. Many of his poetry was composed by the music directors and sung by renown singers. His real name was Syed Ahmed Shah and he was born in Nowshehra on 14th January 1931.
Ahmad Faraz was a great man as he always fought against Army dictators in Pakistan through his pen. Just a little before his death, he joined the lawyers in their movement against Musharraf. In a Geo TV Talk Show ‘Capital Talk’ he criticised Army generals who have been involved in the politics.
Ahmed Faraz also remained out of country during the black reign of Gen. Zia Ul Haq. He was also put behind the bars by Gen. Zia. Gen. Musharraf also did not treat him well and ordered police to throw his luggage out of his home in Islamabad.
Poetry of Ahmed Faraz comprises of simple but beautiful words that can be easily understood even by a common man. He was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2004 by the Pakistani Government. Faraz’s death is a big loss for Urdu poetry that is not easily coverable. May Allah bless his soul with eternal peace…Amin!

Ranjish Hee Sahee
Our poet, Ismail Ajaz (Khayal) has expressed his feelings over Faraz’s death in these words:

Woh Hamsafar (in the memory of Ahmed Faraz)

Chalo Ik Baar Phir Se Ajnabi Bun Jaayain Hum Dounoun
Kia Hua Tera Waada, Woh Qasam Woh Iraada! With this verse of a hit Bollywood song, Nawaz Sharif announced yesterday (25 August 2008 ) to come out of the coalition government with Pakistan Peoples Party. He told in a press conference in Islamabad that he was announcing this decision with great grieve as it was in the favour of Pakitan that this coaltion government could have worked together. But as Asif Ali Zardari refrained from reinstating the detained Judges, this coalition broke down. PML(N) has nominated Justice (retd.) Saeed Uz Zaman Siddiqui as its candidate for the forthcoming Presidential election. He will contest against Zardari for the office of the President of Pakistan.
This is really an alarming issue, which needs to be taken very seriously by the PPP leadership because now a great majority of the PPP supporters are also upset due to Zardari’s self made decisions on important national issues. Asif Ali Zardari is really doing great to destroy the image of PPP. It can be forecast that in the next elections, PPP will not be able to convince its voters. Nawaz’s decision is warmly welcomed by the APDM leaders and they have asked PML(N) to join them once again.

Pakistan Peoples Party Flag
Yesterday I heard a news and found myself helpless writing this article, although I was not in a mood to discuss the shameful political situation of Pakistan.
Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, who has been nominated by the Central Executive Committee of Pakistan Peoples Party to contest the election for the office of the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, issued a shameful statement on his written commitments and bindings with Pakistan Muslim League-N. When he was asked by the journalist for not fulfilling his promises about the restoration of deposed judges, Zardari replied that such promises were not like Quran or Hadiths (sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad-PBUH) that needed to be fulfilled. This preson is going to become the President of our country and he does not understand value of ‘WORD’. What kind of leadership is this? Is this the same PPP for which Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and his daughter Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives???
I request senior PPP leaders and workers to think over this issue as in my opinion their party is hijacked by the insincere and non-serious people, who want to cash the names of above mentioned Shaheed leaders for their own purposes.

Bourke Street, Melbourne
It was 13th March 2004, when I landed in Melbourne, Australia. I had got Australian immigration and decided to settle in Australia. With dreams in my eyes, I reached Melbourne where my younger brother Majid was living already in order to complete his computer science degree from RMIT.
Melbourne is a real beautiful city and one gets in love with this amazing place after spending a few days here. Its one of the few cities in the world, where trams are being used as a medium of travel. Live music on Bourke Street in the City Area is a must-to-listen item. Walking on the bankside of Yarra River in little chilled weather is one of the most beautiful memories of my life.

Victorian Arts Centre
Victorian Arts Centre presents a beautiful view in night. Similarly I cherish my guided tour to MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground). It is a must-to-do thing in Melbourne. The city of Melbourne was declared as the ‘Most liveable city in the world’ in 1990. Melbournites are very friendly and welcoming. You will find all people smiling and helping each other. Almost half of the population comprises of Chienese immigrants. Recently a new attraction Eureka Skydeck 88 is added to the existing attractions of Melbourne. Its 88th floor of the highest building in Melbourne, Eureka. 360 degree of view is available from this beautifully decorated floor, having glasses on all of its sides.
Crown Entertainment Complex is another attraction. It has the biggest casino of Australia. In this one building you find shopping area, cinemas, restaurants and casino. St. Kilda beach is a beautiful beach, which is a hot point of visitors.
Melbourne’s weather is one of the trickiest things in the world. It is said its the city where you will find all four weathers in a day. You will find people wearing t-shirts, jackets, suits and shorts in the same day. Rain comes all of a sudden and one cannot predict about the weather very precisely.
I recommend all those who can afford to visit this beautiful city as their trip to Melbourne will become a beautiful memory for them.

Today I am writing something different from the routine and I really expect some very serious comments on this from the viewers. Pakistanis were one nation, when we got our homeland in 1947 after a great sacrifice. Many people lost their lives and many families got dispersed. Many of our sisters and mothers were disgraced by the enemy. Muhammad Ali Jinnah played a vital role for giving us this Islamic land by the grace of Allah. Unfortunately, we forgot that our ancestors had given their blood for this country. We did not remain one nation and started dividing on the basis of language, religious beliefs and political differences. Political and religious leaders who could play a better role to control these issues, did not realise the damage that would be resulted from these conflicts.
Now we are not one nation…. We are Punjabis, Sindhis, Muhajirs, Pathans, Balochis, Kashmiris, Qabailees, Shiaa, Sunni, Wahabee, Ismaelee, blah blah….
We teach same things to our kids who are the most innocent humanbeings and know to love only. I wish that we as Pakistanis can become united by accepting each other as we are. We must spread LOVE and PEACE that today we are missing in our so called civilised society. I request all of you to think on this issue seriously and start a CHANGE by yourself. You can invite people from other beliefsets or cultures over a cup of tea and I am sure that insha Allah a day will come when we will be a great and strong nation once again… Insha Allah!

Musharraf - the worst Army dictator
Pakistani Qaum ko yaum-e-azadi mubarik. This Urdu sentence means “Happy independence day to Pakistani nation”. Normally this sentence is used on 14th August every year, which is the date when Pakistan got independence from the British rule in 1947.
18th August 2008 can be termed as a new independence day for Pakistan, when an Army dictator admitted his defeat and resigned from the country’s presidentship after bringing the country in a high instable condition. Musharraf has as many as controvercial acts on his record that its difficult to count all of them. According to a review on Geo TV, nation did not accept his decisions about Dr. A.Q. Khan, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Lal Masjid action.
New government showed courage against him unanimously by preparing a charge-sheet against him, which was likely to be presented in the National Assemby by tomorrow. Musharraf was going to have a tough time, therefore his sincere freinds and political partners advised him to withdraw now. Role of Army Chief, General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiani remained very positive on this issue as he did not support President Musharraf for using Article 58-B2 for dissolving the parliament. He is a true soldier who wants to improve the image of Pakistan Army. Let us see what happens next….
Our poet, Mr. Ismail Ajaz has written a very special poem on Musharraf’s resignation. Its in Urdu, so I apologise to those visitors who cannot read Urdu.

India always claims to be the world’s biggest secular state, where all citizens have equal rights regardless of their faith or beliefs. Unfortunately this is not true at all. in India not only Muslims, but Christians, Sikhs and even lower casts of Hindus are kept deprived of basic human rights. The present news is that renown Muslim actress Shabana Azmi and her husband, a well known poet, Javed Akhtar are facing great difficulty in finding a house in Mumbai (Bombay). Shabana told that they are facing this situation just because they are Muslims. She added that similar condition is being faced by her fellow Muslim actor Saif Ali Khan. ’Khans’ have brought lot of success for the Bollywood and in my personal opinion (to which you may disagree) they are not practically Muslims. My Muslim friends from India have told me in Dubai that they find great difficulty in getting jobs in India just because of their faith. Its a matter of shame for a democratic republic having a oppulation of more than 1.2 billion people. Indian government must take immediate steps to control the violence against Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and other religious minorities.
